Chris Hatcher Inducted into the Barons of the Barossa

We proudly congratulate Wolf Blass Chief Winemaker, Chris Hatcher, who has been inducted into the Barons of the Barossa alongside Barossa Quarries' Steve Falland, Peter Lehmann Wines' Ian Hongell, Hutton Vale Farm's John Angas and Seppeltsfield's Fiona Donald.

The five have each contributed significantly to the region’s profile as a premium wine destination.

Chris Hatcher has lived and worked as a winemaker in the Barossa Valley for the last 42 years. After holding senior winemaking positions at Kaiser Stuhl and Orlando, Chris joined Wolf Blass in 1987 and has led the winemaking team as the chief winemaker for the last 20 years.

During this period, Wolf Blass has won many awards in Australia and internationally, including the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show in 1999; International Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine & Sprit Competition in London in 2002 and 2013; International Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London in 2008, 2013 and 2016; Winery of the Year at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in 2015; and Winery of the Year at InterVin Canada in 2013 and 2016.

The Wine Fraternity, Barons of Barossa was founded in 1975 by a group of influential Barossa wine industry personalities. Membership of the Fraternity is by invitation and is offered to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the Barossa. New Barons are inducted into the Fraternity in a colourful ceremony and membership is for life.

The focus of the Barons of Barossa has remained unchanged since its foundation and it continues to proudly and enthusiastically support Barossa wine, viticulture, gastronomy, heritage and the arts.
