Welcome to Wolf Blass Explore Our Wines

Congratulations to our team, as Wolf Blass wins 'Winery of the Year' honours at the InterVin International Wine Awards for the second time in four years.

Wolf Blass was awarded the two top-scoring red wines in the 2016-17 competition, for the Wolf Blass Medlands Vineyard Platinum Label Shiraz 2010 and the Wolf Blass Black Label Cabernet Shiraz Malbec 2012.

InterVin Head Judge Christopher Waters said Wolf Blass’ success at the competition was impressive since it came across the broad range of their portfolio.

It wasn’t just a case of small batch, high priced wines winning the day,” Waters explained. “InterVin judges praised Wolf Blass’ affordable Yellow Label range as well as its more premium releases. The quality across the board is something to admire.

Wolf Blass Chief Winemaker, Chris Hatcher, was especially thrilled to receive the award given Wolf Blass’ long connection with Canada. It’s been an important market for more than 30 years, with ongoing support for the Australian brand coming from wine novices and enthusiasts across the country. He says it's a point of pride to be InterVin's Winery of the Year for the second time in four years.

"Winning the Winery of the Year is very exciting for Wolf Blass as it recognizes the quality and diversity of not just our luxury wines, Black and Platinum Labels, but also the Grey, Gold and Yellow that are so well supported in the Canadian market," Hatcher said.

Having the top-scoring red wine in the competition, the Wolf Blass Medlands Vineyard Platinum Label Shiraz 2010, is certainly something to champion. Going one better, Wolf Blass also contributed the runner-up, the Wolf Blass Black Label Cabernet Shiraz Malbec 2012.

Hatcher also points to the success of another expression: the 2012 Gold Label Syrah from the Adelaide Hills. "Winning gold medals for both our Medlands Shiraz and Gold Label Syrah at a highly respected international competition like InterVin demonstrates we are able to make diverse, high quality styles within our winery."

The InterVin International Wine Awards is designed to recognize and celebrate the very best wines available to Canadian consumers. The goal is simple: help winemakers attain well-deserved recognition and celebrate outstanding achievements in winemaking. During three-days of intensive blind tasting, InterVin judges were faced with a collection of more than 1,300 wines from 16 countries and awarded 48 gold, 222 silver and 555 bronze medals.
